LAWN BOWLS ISLE OF MAN
This event drew a good field of members for the 2 Bowl Singles Competition, possibly the most challenging tournament to conquer. With a random draw and just 4 matches to qualify for the top 2 places that would battle it out for the final it seemed inevitable that shots differential would play a part in the equation. However, playing some superb bowls during the qualifying rounds last year’s champion Karen Slack swept all before her as she racked up 4 wins to top the pool. The scrap for the second spot came right down to the wire with Gary Lenton, Bernice McGreal and Clive McGreal all vying for position level on 6 points apiece with Clive ahead on shots advantage. But not to be outdone David Quirk nudged ahead with 3 wins and a draw from his pool matches to earn 7 points and claim the other berth in the final. With just 8 ends to contend with the final saw a valiant effort by Karen to retain the trophy but it was David who produced the goods at the end of the day to run out a worthy winner. Congratulations on a good day at the office.
