LAWN BOWLS ISLE OF MAN
Saturday saw both the sun and club members out in force as a Lawn Bowls Isle of Man hosted the annual Harrison 2 bowls singles competition at Onchan Pleasure Park. The competition saw the largest number of entrants for many years, which caused the competition secretary a big of a headache having to set out eight rinks to play the number of games scheduled in the given time frame. This added a great deal if difficulty to those who played, using lines they have never used before, and only being able to play with two bowls rather than the usual four gave them no room for error.
After a long hot afternoon there were three club members who had successfully won all 4 of their games. Clive McGreal, Dee Lewis and Libby Andrade had to be separated by shot difference to decide who the finalists would be. With shot differences of +26 and +23 it was Clive and Dee who faced each other in the 10 end final.
Watched by the appreciative and encouraging club members and spectators enjoying some good displays of bowls from both players during the close final game, it was the more experienced Clive McGreal to score the winning shots to take the match and the Harrison 2 Bowl Singles title for 2020, making it the seventh occasion he has claimed the unique trophy.
