LAWN BOWLS ISLE OF MAN
Well done to the IOM Squad who recently competed at the European Bowls Championships at the Headquarters of Bowls Scotland in Ayr. The event was an intense week of competition in all disciplines which comprised 17 nations and a strenuous programme of matches which was a challenge for many of the competitors. With a number of the experienced bowlers being unavailable the Manx squad contained no less than 5 members who were making their international debut and whilst recognising the quality and standard of the opposition on show they acquitted themselves very well. Amongst the notable results achieved at the event the Men’s Pairs duo of Clive McGreal & Gary Lenton defeated the much fancied pair from Wales, the Ladies Triples of Dee Lewis, Pam Makin & Karen Slack notched up some fine results including a remarkable draw with England and 2 further victories, just missing out on a semi-final spot, and in the Men’s Singles Clive McGreal won 4 of his 7 matches including victory over the Guernsey Champion selected for the forthcoming Commonwealth Games, Todd Pridaux. The team can be proud of their performance and overall position with little to differentiate between the mid table placings very close from 7th to 11th. The IOM finished in 11th place from the 17 nations competing.
