LAWN BOWLS ISLE OF MAN
Lawn Bowls was delighted to welcome an enthusiastic group of lady golfers from the Rowany Club to try their hand at a different sport. The visit was organised by Karen Slack, being a member of both clubs, and featured a number who had never played bowls previously. Following some guidance on the basic techniques of the sport provided by the club’s qualified coaches Pam Makin, Bernice and Clive McGreal the ladies played several rounds of pairs matches which were all keenly contested. Whilst it was initially designed as a friendly afternoon of bowls the ladies showed their competitive instincts from the outset with some impressive performances and a close finish amongst a number of the pairings which saw the bragging rights go to Sue Young & Joanna McGarry as the winning duo.
The afternoon was completed by a “spider” competition in which all competitors are placed around the perimeter of the green and deliver just a single bowl to a jack placed in the centre of the green. As it happened this event was also won by Joanna with a bowl finishing just inches away from the jack to add further to her prizes for the day.It was clearly evident that everyone enjoyed their experience and played way above par for newcomers to the sport of lawn bowls.
A special mention and congratulations must go to Fay on her achievement for the 1st “toucher” of the day (Pictured below).
The club offers a warm welcome to any sporting group looking to try out the sport.
