LAWN BOWLS ISLE OF MAN
The National Fours Finals were contested this weekend having been postponed from earlier in the season due to bad weather.
With the Ladies competition being a 3 way contest it was a matter whether any of the combinations could manage 2 wins to take the title outright. As it transpired the winning team of Barbara Reed, Libby Andrade, Joanne Kelly and skip Pam Makin were dominant in both of their matches to coast to victory and become the champions for 2024.
In the men’s event it was a wider field of 6 rinks that battled for the title with a number of the club’s juniors competing amongst the ranks. With some fine bowling on offer despite the very windy conditions the teams making their way to the final were separated by just a single shot from the tightly fought pool matches. In the final it took a further extra end to separate the 2 teams as the victors Rab Prentice, Andy Foster, Phil Watterson and skip David Slack were worthy winners in claiming the title for the season.
A special note for the performance of the Club President, Gary Lenton who despite his mobility difficulties of late produced a fine contribution to his rink with the aid of a mechanical bowling arm which is another first for the club with this equipment being used in competition.
