YET ANOTHER HARRISON 2 BOWL WIN FOR MCGREAL

The largest field of entrants to a Harrison 2 bowl competition ever caused a headache for the organizers early on in the afternoon, resulting in the green having to be marked out to accomodate eight rinks. It goes to show the growth of the sport here on the island, which is incredibly pleasing to see.

The amendments to the green certainly added a degree of difficulty for those involved. They could no longer rely on some of the lines they have come to read over the past few months, and being restricted to only using two bowls rather than being able to use all four they have become accustom to using, it left little room for error. Despite the challenges, there was no change from last year’s result, as it was another victory for Clive McGreal who successfully defended the Harrison 2 bowl he won last season, claiming it for a record eigth time.

With just Clive and Pam Makin being the only two unbeaten after their 4 pool matches, they progressed to play against each other in what was a nail biting final. The match was nip and tuck all the way and had to go to an extra end after scores were tied at 4 each at the end of the scheduled number of ends. The game came to a dramatic end as Clive who was holding shot with a touching bowl forced Pam to chase the jack with her last bowl. She came close with but just failed to trail the jack which enabled Clive to retain the trophy.
