Much to everyone’s delight the sun finally came out on Saturday for the ‘official opening’ of Lawn Bowls IOM for 2019.

As with tradition, the first bowl was rolled by Chairman of Onchan District Commissioners, Martin MacFarlane, who was accompanied by Commissioners Robin Dentith and Derek Crellin. Although not all members were able to be present an enjoyable afternoon of bowling took place with Pam Makin being winner of the famous ‘spider’, where all present including our esteamed guests from the Commissioners roll a bowl towards a jack in the centre of the green. This fun start to the day was followed by a round robin and an excellent buffet provided by the members. It was good to see new members Gary Lenton & David Slack, and a warm welcome back previous member Martin Paterson.

Members were glad to see Anne Watterson back at the club although she is still in a wheelchair so it may be a while before she is back in action on the green again!

The Committee wishes to thank the Commissioners for attending and showing their continued support. We would like to also extend our thanks to greenkeeper Michael Jackson for maintaining the green over the winter months; it looks in great condition, fingers are crossed that it plays as good as it looks!
