Lawn Bowls Isle of Man held its official opening on Saturday 21st April, with the Chairman of Onchan Commissioners Anthony Allen having the honour of rolling the first bowl, followed by the traditional ‘spider’ which was won by Mike Moyer, before the first competition (one of many forthcoming competitions) of the season the Yardstick commenced. Due to the large turnout of members, 10 teams competed for the trophy. It was a close competition throughout with our President Philip Watterson and partner Marcia Pearson (one of last year’s winners) facing Alan Pearson and new member Kevin Quirk in the final. Another close match with only a 2 shot lead securing victory for the team of Philip and Marcia and giving Marcia bragging rights in the Pearson household! The Committee thanks Chairman Allen and all Onchan Commissioners who attended to support the event. Thanks are also extended to all members, especially for the excellent buffet and to all spectators for their support.
